Welcome to Tobermory, the scuba diving capital of Canada! This area at the top of the Bruce Peninsula draws divers and snorkelling enthusiasts from far and wide.

Ontario’s largest dive weekend is the “Tobermory Takeover.” Organized by Burlington-based Float N’ Flag Dive Centre, 60 to 70 divers gather every August in Tobermory to scuba dive.

What can I see while scuba diving in Tobermory?

22 shipwrecks (10 to 150 feet deep), submerged forests and canyons, limestone shoals, the remains of ancient coral in a former tropical sea, crawfish, bass, sculpin, and up to 100 feet of water clarity.

The natural environment around Tobermory contains some of the most pristine waters of the Great Lakes. Like many top dive locations around the world, the majority of diving sites near Tobermory are only accessible by chartered boat.

Dive shops, sightseeing and charter vessels, and the Parks Canada Diver Registration Centre are all located within walking distance from Tobermory’s Little Tub Harbour.

What is Fathom Five National Marine Park?

Famous for scuba diving, Fathom Five National Marine Park is Canada’s first underwater park and boasts 22 known shipwrecks.

The park is over 116 square kilometres of crystal clear turquoise water surrounded by an archipelago of 19 islands. Sheer cliffs, limestone overhangs, and huge caves can be seen both on the islands and underwater.

Twenty historical shipwrecks lie 10 to 150 feet beneath the surface. Storms have broken and scattered masts, but massive timbers are still intact. Divers and snorkelers can discover steamers and cargo ships that brought passengers and supplies to the Bruce Peninsula over a century ago.

Anyone planning to dive in Fathom Five needs to first acquire a dive tag by registering at the Parks Canada Diver Registration Centre.
